The resource analysis tools in PD-Trak allow organizations to
optimize project throughput through effective resource management.
Every company is resource limited. The challenge is to get the
most out of those resources and to do this with the minimum of effort.
PD-Trak's resource analysis tools combined with the portfolio management
tools provide a complete solution for effective resource management.
The most commonly used historical tool for
organization level resource analysis has been Microsoft Project
TM
and Microsoft Project Server
TM.
While Project is an excellent tool for task planning and critical path
analysis, it requires a high level of effort if it is to be used in
conjunction with Microsoft Project Server
TM
for the purpose of resource analysis. This is because Project is
working at the task level such that resources must be assigned to
individual tasks which is detail oriented and challenging to maintain in
real time across a portfolio of projects.
PD-Trak provides a practical, flexible method for performing organization level resource analysis. At the project level the project manager has the option to capture resource needs by skill set and phase (
Budget & Schedule), by team member's name on a weekly calendar (
Resource Allocation) or by task
using Microsoft Project
TM.
Managers can then roll up the resource demand for a selected set of
resources and projects and compare this to resource availability as
defined in the
resource pool. This flexible approach
allows you to choose the level of detail that makes sense for your
organization.
