Project scoring allows the projects in the portfolio to be prioritized
according to some predefined criteria and a structured scoring process.
PD-Trak provides two scoring options: simple and comprehensive.
The simple approach allows a manager to score the project against a
simple list of scoring criteria with a standard weighting system.
The comprehensive approach is designed for a team of managers to enter
their scores based on a more detailed list of weighted criteria.
The scoring worksheets may be used in a portfolio planning session to
rank the projects and would typically be updated at each gate review.
The resulting score is visible on the
Master Project Schedule
allowing the portfolio to be sorted by score. The criteria are
optimized based on the type of project being managed.
Example
of a comprehensive scoring worksheet:
The evaluators enter their scores (1 to 10, where 10 is best) into the
yellow cells. The worksheet computes the average scores and applies the
weighting factors to compute the overall score. The maximum weighted score
for a project is 100. Scoring differences greater than 3 points are
highlighted to prompt discussion between the gatekeepers that are scoring
the project.
