Peregrine purchased PD-Trak's software solution to manage the tracking and execution of it's large cross-departmental programs. Specifically, we were looking for a cohesive way to track schedules, costs, resources, documentation, purchase orders etc. We were using MS Project, Excel, posting things on the intranet; this was very inefficient. PD-Trak enabled us to track all aspects of the program through a single interface. It gave us a single place to store all related information for a given project. PD-Trak also allowed us to quickly review program status at a high level and review resource loading across multiple programs - previously do-able in MS Project but painful. In addition to these functional considerations, we selected the PD-Trak solution because of its simplicity, ease of use and flexibility. In our opinion it was the best solution available in the price range we were looking. We have been using PD-Trak for over six months now and have been very happy with the both the product and the service we have been provided.

Inphi Corporation is a semiconductor company in Westlake Village, CA. We have been using PD-Trak since October of 2002 to manage our new product development. Inphi has developed over 80 integrated circuits for communications, instrumentation and other high performance applications. We chose PD-Trak over more commonly known product development tracking software because we found it to be the most cost effective, easiest to use and most integrated of the packages that we evaluated. In addition, the level of customer support has been fantastic. PD-Trak Solutions developed customized reports that fit right into our existing development flow. These reports, which used to take a day or so to generate, are now generated in seconds. PD-Trak has increased our productivity and decreased our costs!

Anritsu MMD (Microwave Measurements Division) has been using the predecessor to the current PD-Trak software since 1998 and we are currently evaluating the advantages of upgrading to the current release of the software.

The PD-Trak tools have been very powerful in guiding the project teams through the product development process. PD-Trak helps the teams to follow the process and organize their project information as well as providing critically important management summary information. Before they always got stuck and had to develop or search for templates that were not too useful. Usually they designed their own tools and eventually every team followed their own process because they had some sort of documentation for it. Now everybody uses the same forms and speaks the same language and the communication with the other teams and functions has dramatically improved.

For example, the Master Project Schedule is reviewed weekly in our management staff meeting and it has become a vital tool for tracking and communicating the project status. It allows the management team to provide the necessary support and guidance to the projects and make necessary resource tradeoffs when needed.

The product definition and the project management skills have greatly improved because the PD-Trak process provides more guidance such that even less experienced project leaders can succeed. The project goals are more clearly defined and the investment justification is much more meaningful and consistent. We have a structured method for starting new projects and tracking them through all stages. Several of the old style projects have been cancelled due to the more rigorous evaluation, where previously they may have continued with lots of resources wasted.

Passing ISO audits is another significant aspect of PD-Trak. The auditors just love the system because they can find most of what they need from a computer terminal, by browsing the project files.

We have not attempted to measure the financial benefits of deploying these tools directly, but the general view of the management team is that they have been very significant. We have certainly significantly reduced the time to market with our new product developments and we are working on fewer and better projects. But we also benefited from many indirect aspects of the PD-Trak system for example our director of QA is convinced that it was instrumental in earning us the ISO 9001 certification for the company.

PD-Trak is a cost effective tool to enable companies to put good NPD into practice. It is ideally suited to our business, being a small to medium sized R&D effort that typically handles a large number of simultaneous projects.

The great advantage to us is that it brings all the aspects of good NPD practice into one integrated whole. Templates for tools such as QFD, APQP, task plans, resource plans, product summaries, etc., are provided and are fully customizable, which was useful in gaining acceptance throughout our company. It also enables the NPD process to become much more transparent, such that objectives are clear and progress can be monitored.

Because it is based on MS Excel, it fits seamlessly into the MS Office suite and very little training is involved with its use, which again adds to its appeal and easy acceptance by areas outside the R&D community within our company.

The resource management tool is very useful from a budget and workload planning perspective, allowing management clear visibility of resource requirements for meeting project goals, allowing informed decisions to be made.

Cost effective, easy to use, configurable to meet specific needs, enables good NPD practice, - what else is there to say?
