Workshops and Training Modules

PD-Trak Solutions offers a range of workshops and training modules that cover process basics and best practices in addition to software functionality and use.  Please contact us for detailed training outlines and pricing.

Software Functionality Training and Workshops

The following training modules are generally provided as on-site, classroom based training. Most modules are available as web based training for new employees, as refresher training for existing employees or for small implementations.

The Project Management Tools modules that are needed would depend on the options purchased.

Timing estimates are approximate.

  • Introduction to PD-Trak (3 hrs)
    • An overview of PD-Trak functionality and the underlying processes. Audience: anyone that will be involved in the related projects.

  • Project Management Tools, Standard Tools part 1 (2 hrs)
    • A computer based class aimed at project managers and project level power users. This class covers setting up project files, the project brief, budget & schedule, task plans, action item management and team members list.

  • Project Management Tools, Standard Tools part 2 (2 hrs)
    • Computer based class covering the financial justification worksheet, decision log, gate archives and project milestones worksheets

  • Project Management Tools, Extended Tools (2 hrs)
    • Computer based class covering expense allocation, financial summary, Microsoft Project basics, risk management, stakeholder analysis, metrics dashboard, slip chart and project scoring

  • Project Management Tools, Resource Management (2 hrs)
    • Computer based class covering different methods for capturing resource requirements including the budget & schedule worksheet, resource allocation worksheet and Microsoft Project

  • Project Management Tools, Microsoft Project Integration (2 hrs)
    • Computer based class covering the integration features with Microsoft Project

  • Introduction to PD-Trak Management Functions (2 hrs)
    • Initial training for the management team on portfolio and resource management functions. (Detailed training is generally offered 3-6 months after initial deployment once project data has been entered into the system).

  • Managing Gate Reviews with PD-Trak (2 hrs)
    • Training to teach senior managers (gatekeepers) to use PD-Trak for gate reviews/project approval

  • Portfolio Monitoring and Reports (1/2 day)
    • Training for senior managers on using the portfolio monitoring functions.

  • Resource Management (1 day)
    • Training for functional managers on using the resource management features to identify and manage near term resource bottlenecks to minimize disruption to projects.

  • Portfolio and Resource Planning (1 day)
    • Training for senior management on using PD-Trak for developing a future project plan that is consistent with business objectives and constraints.

  • PD-Trak Administration (2 hrs)
    • Training on the PD-Trak administration functions
Process and Principles Workshops
  • Stage/Phase Gate Process Definition (2 days)
    • Best practice principles are presented as the basis for developing a project process roadmap that is optimized for your company environment

  • Project Migration Workshop (1 day)
    • A hands on workshop to assist project managers to move existing projects into PD-Trak

  • Gate Review Process (1/2 day)
    • A workshop to define the details of the gate review process i.e. how projects are assessed and approved

  • Organizing to Embrace Project Management as a Core Competence (1/2 day)
    • In this workshop we will help you define an organizational approach to achieving project management excellence including selecting/hiring the right people, training requirements, measuring project management performance and organizational options (dual role vs. dedicated project managers)

  • Portfolio Management Process (1 day)
    • Best practice principles are presented and used to define a detailed portfolio management process that is optimized for your company.

  • Pipeline/Resource Management Process (1 day)
    • A workshop to define the approach your company will take to the tactical management of resources as needed to maximize project throughput.

  • Project Planning with Microsoft Project (1 day)
    • A computer based class that covers the use of Microsoft Project for developing task and timing plans based on task dependencies, resource constraints and critical path analysis.

  • Embracing Project Management Principles with PD-Trak and Microsoft Project (2-3 days)
    • Training for project managers that covers fundamental project management principles and the related tools in PD-Trak and Microsoft Project.

  • Product Development Workshops
    • Requirements Definition using QFD (2 days)
    • Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (3 days)
    • Target Costing/Design to Cost (2 days)

On-The-Job Training

We can also provide on-the-job training assisting personnel with their projects and responsibilities.  This might include the following:

  • Assist project managers to plan and manage their projects and prepare for gate reviews using PD-Trak

  • Assist project team members with using PD-Trak tools, performing their tasks, preparing deliverables, and preparing for gate reviews

  • Work with functional managers to perform resource management using PD-Trak with the goal of identifying resource bottlenecks before they occur and finding optimum solutions

  • Work with gatekeepers to optimize the gate review process and to use PD-Trak to manage resources such that projects are only released into the pipeline if the resources are available, based on project scoring/prioritization

  • Work with senior managers to develop future project plans by facilitating workshops and/or assisting in the use of PD-Trak’s portfolio analysis tools
